FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact Person: Suzie Blake, 505-323-0478, suzie.blake@griefnm.org The Grief Center of New Mexico to Offer Overnight Camp (Camp Corazón) for Grieving Kids from Northeastern New Mexico Albuquerque, NM – The Grief Center of New Mexico will offer a free 3-day, 2-night camp for kids ages 7-senior in high school who are grieving the death of someone important to them. Camp Corazón will be held June 27 – 29, 2025 in Torreon, NM. A $40 deposit per camper is needed to register for camp and will be refunded after the camper attends camp. Camp Corazón will offer traditional camp activities such as a challenge course, bonfire, songs, games, and swimming. In addition, it provides a unique and important opportunity for kids who are grieving the death of someone important in their life to share their experiences and memories with peers. A 12-year-old camper from a previous Camp Corazón whose dad died from COVID shared that the part of camp they found most helpful was the sharing circle, adding that “it helped me express my feelings.” Camp Corazón teaches grieving children age-appropriate coping skills to help them manage grief in their day-to-day lives. “Camp Corazón provides an opportunity for bereaved young people to learn how to live with their grief,” said Debora Garrison, Grief Center Executive Director, “Campers get to experience a weekend full of activities, fun, and healing, where nobody is ‘the only one’ living with death. It’s a transformative experience for campers and volunteers.” Information and camp applications for both campers and volunteers are available at www.griefnm.org/campcorazon/. Campers must register by June 6, 2025. Priority is given to youth in Northeastern New Mexico. Grief Center employees are available to answer questions – please contact The Grief Center in Albuquerque at 505-323-0478 or email them at info@griefnm.org. If you would like to sponsor a camper, the average cost is $350 per attendee. All donations to The Grief Center are tax deductible and can be made at www.griefnm.org/donate. Note to media: We welcome news interviews and articles about Camp Corazón, but to respect the privacy of campers, we do not allow media attendance at the event. ### About The Grief Center of New Mexico: The Grief Center of New Mexico offers free grief support groups for bereaved children (ages 5 +) and adults.
