For one wine-softened evening, artists, officials, and derby bruisers shared the same orbit — proof that in a struggling town, weirdness isn’t a luxury; it’s infrastructure.
Brenda Ortega Casts a Tejano Spell at Shuler Theater, and Raton Gladly Falls Under It
More than 200 neighbors filled the Historic Shuler Theater for a donation-only concert benefiting the Raton Rotary Club scholarship fund, where Brenda Ortega and Cielo Azul turned a winter evening into something closer to a barrio celebration. Tejano rhythms and Nuevo Mexicano favorites drew people into the aisles, cowboy hats briefly took flight, and generations shared the same pulse of music and memory. By night’s end, more than $1,200 had been raised — and the promise of another gathering lingered in the air.
