The Philmont Fire Recovery & Mitigation project, which began in 2023, aims to treat approximately 63,000 acres of ponderosa pine ecosystems to reduce future fire risks, particularly in areas with slopes exceeding 40%.
Miller Timber utilizes Ponsse harvesters and forwarders equipped with a tether system, ensuring the equipment maintains positive contact without slipping, even on slopes greater than 80%. This capability to work on steep terrains was crucial for the Ranch’s decision to retain Miller’s services.
Additionally, the snow on the ground serves as a cushion for the harvesters, further minimizing their impact while operating at staff camps like Miners Park.
