Raton Animal Shelter

Operating Hours

  • Monday-Friday 8:00 am-12:00pm & 1:00pm-4:30pm.
  • Saturday and Sunday from around 9:00am-1:00pm.

If during normal business hours and Animal Control Officer (ACO) is not at the shelter contact the Raton Police Department to dispatch.

There are many homeless animals at the Raton Animal Shelter that need a forever home. Some have been rescued from abusive situations, some have been surrendered because the owner could no longer care for them, and some have lost their owners who have passed on.

Contact the Raton Animal Shelter for a visit.

Regular Adoption Fee is $75.00

This includes spay/neuter, microchip, heart worm test, City of Raton tags for calendar year, and all current shots. Specials often run and are advertised on Facebook at HumaneSociety Raton NM.

Boxer-Pit-mix-neutered-male-800

Boxer/Pittie Mix; neutered male, 2 years old.  He’s fully vetted, microchipped, and heartworm tested.  This boy would make a great companion for someone who could take him on long walks/hikes.  He would shine as being the only dog.

Chow-female-800

This Chow female is a senior female, had been locked in a home with two other Chows. Was heavily matted and in poor shape. Has been groomed and warming up to people.

This Chow is a senior male that had been locked in a home with two other Chows. Was heavily matted and in poor shape. Has been groomed and warming up to people.

Chow

Undetermined whether male or female. Was locked in a home with two other Chows, but we have not been able to groom this one yet to determine the sex.

Lab-mix-female

Labrador mix; female; is maybe 6-8 years old.  She is shy and timid.  She lived with a family with children.

“Diamond,” Labrador mix; spayed female, 8 years old.  She is fully vetted, microchipped, and heartworm tested.  She’s a very active gal who needs someone to play with her and take her for walks.  She loves her treats.  Please help Diamond find her forever home.

To kick off the new Pets page, The Ratonian is sponsoring a photo contest. All photos will be published in the pet page photo gallery. The photographer of the winning photo will receive a $50 cash prize along with a special story, “My Pet and Me,” which will be a monthly featured article about someone and their pet. With the summer months fast approaching, please keep in mind that the sidewalks and pavements get extremely hot in the sun. Please take care to walk your dogs on grass or soil to prevent pain and suffering.
