Seeking Lodgers Tax Board Members
Dear Colfax County Residents,
We are currently seeking members to join the Lodgers Tax Board and play a crucial role in shaping our community’s tourism and hospitality landscape. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about enhancing our local economy and supporting initiatives that benefit both residents and visitors.
About the Lodgers Tax Board:
The board is responsible for overseeing the allocation oflodger’s tax funds, promoting tourism, and ensuring that our community continues to thrive as a welcoming destination. Members will work collaboratively to develop strategies that maximize the impact of our tourism initiatives.
Qualifications:
We are looking for individuals who possess:
• Experience in hospitality, tourism, finance, or community development
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• A commitment to promoting our local economy and community welfare
• Two members who are owners or operators of lodging subject to the occupancy tax withing the unincorporated area of the county.
• Two members who are owners or operators of industries located within the unincorporated area of the County that primarily provides services or products to tourists.
• One member who is a resident of the unincorporated area of the County who represents the general public.

Include a brief statement of interest outlining your qualifications and why you wish to serve on the board. Regarding the Recent Snowstorm.
Over the weekend Colfax County along with every other county in New Mexico and across our northern border in Eastern Colorado faced a significant snowstorm. In New Mexico, all 33 counties were affected by the storm with 29 counties reporting moderate to severe conditions. Colfax County Emergency Management, Road and Bridge, Sheriff’s Office, Fire Marshal and Firefighters worked long days to rescue stranded motorist, stranded homeowners, and worked together to plow snow so emergency services could get to residences to assist people needing help. Its important to note there was not anywhere in Colfax County that was not affected by the storm. Colfax County employees worked tirelessly to reach all affected areas; however, our primary focus was on life safety and opening main routes before we could focus on outlying areas. We appreciate our citizens patients and know that while we are proud of our efforts we will continue to look for ways to perform and communicate even better in the future. Snow amounts in Colfax County ranged between one to three feet and in some areas four feet with snow drifts reported as high as six feet. As of today 98%, of the county is open with a few outer lying areas still needing to be opened. Colfax County Manager, Monte Gore worked with IT Director, Amadeo Soto to arrange for a remote Emergency Meeting to be held so the County Commissioners could sign an emergency declaration to help cover the costs.

Bid will be awarded at the Regular Meeting of the Colfax County Commission on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.
Colfax County reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. The New Mexico Procurement Code, Sections 13-1-28 through 13-1-99 NMSA 1978, imposes civil and misdemeanor criminal penalties for its violation. In addition, the New Mexico criminal statutes impose felony penalties for bribes, gratuities and kick-backs.
