Relay for Life of Raton Colfax County is an annual event to raise funds for research, education, and outreach in the hope of finding a cure for cancer through the American Cancer Society. Join us as we celebrate 8 months of planning and fundraising efforts in our event which celebrates cancer survivors while honoring those who have lost the battle. We will continue to fight in the hope that anyone who ever gets cancer can be celebrated as a survivor.
Relay for Life teams gather at Tiger Stadium and have at least one member walking on the track for the entire event to demonstrate that Cancer is ongoing and does not sleep and does not rest, so neither will we. DJ Queen Beverly Baca will be providing music and karaoke. There will be guest speakers, entertainment, the Survivor work celebrating Cancer Survivors and the Parade of Teams showing gratitude for all our Teams who have participated in this fundraising effort.
This year’s event includes a pre-relay Cancer Survivor Dinner at 1:00 pm at Tiger Stadium. It is free to any cancer survivor who would like to attend. Please RSVP to 505–288-2929 on or before August 14, 2024.
There are several current fundraisers including Classic Night at the Movies featuring School of Rock at Raton’s Historic Shuler Theater on August 7, 2024. The movie is free to the public but we graciously accept any donations which will be sent to American Cancer Society.
Other fundraisers include a banana/zucchini/pumpkin bread sale thru Relay Team We Walk To Remember. A Little Ceasars Pizza Sale thru Relay Team Strides for Strength, and and upcoming Kristy Kreme donut sale scheduled for September 14 on a first come first serve basis at The Station thru the Planning Committee and all Relay teams.
We also are currently selling luminarias for our Relay for Life display. They are $5 each. You purchase the luminaria bag, decorate it and return it to us. We will include it in our display of luminaria bags which will line the track at Tiger Stadium and will flow from disk til about 10 pm.. Please reach out to Sellers: Julian Gutierrez, Missy Gutierrez at the Sweet Shoppe, Mercedes Swanson, Jami Esquibel, Dora Rae Gomez, Elizabeth Tafoya, Jessica Haynes, Michelle Martinez, Brenda Guara, Annishia Gaan, Kristi Graham, and in the Soringer area, Henrietta Kuhlman.
Finally, at the event, we will have the First Annual Laurie Garcia Rock Garden. This is a free event for the community. We ask that you bring your own painted rocks on memory of someone you have lost to include in this display to demonstrate we are never alone in our grief and are here for each other.
We will also have the 8th Annual Freda Baca Messages to Heaven balloon release. This is a fundraiser where a helium balloon is purchased for $5 and a message to someone in heaven is written on it. Then, we release them as a group.
There will be various activities, snacks and novelties for sale and a food truck provided by Ara’s Kitchen as well as visits from Dean and Tina Torres’ ice cream truck.
We hope you are able to join us. For more information or questions, please call:
