Job Title: Assistant Librarian

Department: Community Facilities – Library

Classification: Full-Time / Hourly / Benefits

General Statement of Duties:

The Assistant Librarian position is to be proficient in assisting patrons, computer services, processing and maintenance of materials and collection, and following library procedures set up by the Library Director.

Description of Tasks to be Performed:

This position includes but is not limited to:

1. Provide friendly and courteous assistance to the public.

2. Instruct library users in the basic use of equipment such as computers, microform readers, audiovisual equipment, photo copier, printer, fax machine and scanner.

3. Open, sorts and distributes incoming mail and deliveries.

4. Performs processing, removal, and distribution of library materials.

5. Collects and records simple statistical information.

6. Experience in use of various office machines and equipment

7. Availability to work evening and weekend shifts.

8. Ability to help supervise staff members.

9. Assist the Director with special projects, reports, and general clerical office support.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. A high school diploma or equivalent, combination of education and experience.

2. Ability to effectively serve the needs of patrons

3. Have excellent oral, written and telephone communication skills.

4. Ability to learn job and work independently

5. Ability to receive supervision

6. Ability to perform detailed tasks quickly and accurately is essential

7. Apply organizational and time management skills to tasks assigned

8. Must have typing and computer skills including (Publisher, Internet, E-mail, etc.)

9. Must be proficient in spreadsheets and word-processing software (Excel, Access, Word)

10. Supervisory and/or customer service experience of 3 years

11. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Position requires standing, walking, lifting, and moving objects up to twenty pounds. Random drug and alcohol testing at employer’s discretion.

A typical work schedule is a 40 hour per week requirement, but additional time including nights, weekends and holidays are required periodically as needed. Starting salary will range from $14.00 to $15.00 an hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
