New Plaque Installed at Dawson Cemetery

The new plaque installed at Dawson Cemetery over the 2024 Labor Day weekend was created by local artists Tim Gianulis and Phil Cavos to honor the Greek miners who are buried at Dawson. Labor activist Dolores Huerta, 90, attended the dedication.

Dawson, a mining town was leveled after the mine closed in 1950. The Dawson mine disaster of 1913 where 263 miners were lost, is considered to be the second largest mining disaster in the United States.
