Colfax County Sheriff Department Conducts Joint Training Exercises

On June 21, 2024 the Colfax County Sheriffs office conducted a joint training with the following agencies:

Union County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, Angel Fire Police, State Parks Police, Union County Emergency Manager, Raton Fire Department, Des Moines EMS, Grenville EMS, and Capulin EMS.

The training was held in Des Moines New Mexico at the local school. The purpose of the training was focused on the recovery of victims after the aftermath of an active shooter and or major crisis. TAC*ONE Consulting did a great job and we look forward to future trainings in our area.

Gerald Lucero Arrested on Multiple Charges

Colfax County Sheriff’s Office Press release update
update regarding the arrest made on June 2, 2024. The suspect in custody has been identified as Gerald Lucero.

Lucero faces multiple charges, including:

Three counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony
Three counts of resisting, evading, or obstructing a peace officer
One count of reckless driving.

The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the cooperation and assistance from New Mexico State Police in ensuring the safety and security of Colfax County residents.

Further updates on this case will be provided as the investigation progresses.

Deputy Grosvenor Receives First-Ever Leadership Award from Law Enforcement Academy

June 5, 2024 – The following is provided by the Colfax County Sheriff’s Department.

We are thrilled to announce the return of Deputy Grosvenor to our office! After completing the New Mexico Law Enforcement class #207 on June 4th, 2024, Deputy Grosvenor has returned with even more knowledge, skills, and a prestigious honor.

Not only did Deputy Grosvenor graduate from the academy but also received a special recognition—the first-ever Leadership Award bestowed by the academy! The award was chosen and awarded by the NMLEA Academy Director Sonya Chavez. Throughout the rigorous training, Deputy Grosvenor exhibited exceptional leadership qualities, serving as the class leader from the 3rd week until the completion of the academy.

We couldn’t be prouder of Deputy Grosvenor’s accomplishments and are excited to see the positive impact he will continue to make within our community and office.

Colfax County Sheriff Department Promotes Beto Dominguez

On March 1, 2024 Sheriff Baca swore in Detective Dominguez as Lieutenant of the Colfax County Sheriffs Office. Lieutenant Dominguez.

Lieutenant Dominguez has served in law enforcement for the past 17 years, 11 years previously with the Raton Police Departments, and the past 5 1/2 years with the Colfax County Sheriff Department. Lieutenant Dominguez will continue to assist with investigations.

Raton Police Department Promotes Two Officers

RPD promotions

James Valdez is hereby promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief. James has served in the capacity of Captain for the last 9 years with a total time of service to the City of Raton of 23 years. Deputy Chief Valdez is an invaluable part of our team, the City of Raton and its citizens are well served by him in this position.

Cory Coca is hereby promoted to the rank of Captain. Cory has served in the capacity of Patrol Sergeant for the last 9 years with a total time of service to the City of Raton of 19 ½ years. Captain Coca is another invaluable part of our team; the City of Raton and its citizens are well served by him in this position.
