County Solid Waste Collection Update

Arthur Rolloff County Solid Waste Collection

The last couple of years have been rather frustrating for county residents where solid waste collection has been concerned. With missed collection days (and sometimes weeks), residents faced overflowing dumpsters, no alternative locations to dispose of waste (as a reminder, the Hereford Collection Center does not accept solid waste from county residents) as well the potential health concerns related to such.

The county decided to terminate Tri-State Solid Waste’s services and contracted Raton’s very own Arthur Rolloff, Inc. which had incidentally provided supplemental receptacles previously to help combat the accumulation of trash during a particularly bad period.

The Ratonian spoke with County Commissioner Si Trujillo today and he provided us with the most positive news about the start of Arthur Rolloff, Inc.’s new contract, answered questions about receptacles and whether locations and number of receptacles would change.

Trujillo shared “Regarding the transition to Arthur Rolloff, this will occur on April 15, 2024. Trash, cans and dumpsters will remain in the same location. They will be rotated out, repaired or replaced and painted red in the course of the next year or so. Tri-state has agreed to sell all current dumpsters to Arthur Rolloff, so it should be a smooth transition.”

In addition, Trujillo mentioned an increase in annual service costs to county residents as well as businesses.

During a regular Colfax County Commission Meeting held on March 24, 2024, Solid Waste Technician Tiana Romero announced the increase in annual county residential rates from from $210 to $294. Discussion was held about allowing incremental payments and a fee schedule was approved. Monthly commercial service will increase from $70 to $94.
